"Auselės" - yeast dough pies with sauerkraut St. For the Christmas table.

To bake 24 such "ears" you will need:

  • 500 gr. wheat flour
  • 6 g. dry yeast
  • 150 ml. warm water
  • 50 ml. oil
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • A pinch of salt

For the filling:

  • 2 handfuls of sauerkraut
  • 1 large or 2 smaller carrots
  • 1 head of onion
  • Salt, favorite spices to taste
  • A little oil

You will need additional oil for frying/cooking

First, we prepare the dough:

  • Pour about 40 ml of warm, but not hot water into the cup. Add about 2 teaspoons of sugar, mix well and then add dry yeast.
  • After adding the yeast, mix it so that there are no lumps. And we leave it for about 5 minutes. If the yeast is suitable, the mixture should foam (rise) after five minutes.
  • Pour about a glass of flour into a larger bowl, sprinkle with salt, add water mixed with yeast, and oil. Mix well with a wooden spoon.
  • While adding flour and adding water (until you add it, you will add the listed amount of products), we knead the dough with our hands until the dough no longer sticks to our hands. (If the dough is very sticky to your hands, oil your hands. It will be much easier to knead.)
  • Cover and leave to rise in a warm place for about an hour.

  • Heat a little oil in a pan, add chopped cabbage, carrot grated with a beet grater, fry briefly.
  • Add the sauerkraut, sprinkle with salt and your favorite spices, mix and cover the pan with a lid and simmer on medium heat until the vegetables are soft.
  • We leave to cool.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface, press out circles with a mold or a glass.
  • Place about a teaspoon of the prepared filling on each patty.
  • Press to form "ears".

  • Heat the oil in a deep pan or pot, add the prepared ears and fry for 3-4 minutes on both sides.
